"As Painting with Fire draws to a close I am overwhelmed with gratitude and now a bit of melancholy. During this year I have dedicated more time to learning new skills and actually practicing them than I have in at least a decade. PWF was a birthday present I gave myself and it is definitely the gift that keeps on giving. I was totally new to encaustic so the learning curve has been very steep. Each time I go back to a lesson I gain some new insight about the process that makes more sense as I become more comfortable with the medium. Every single teacher has given me a special gift and one of the most precious is sharing the kind of thought process that goes into making a piece of art. It has been invaluable to me to know that there are so many creative souls out there with the same doubts and crazy habits that I have. You collect bones and rust too? I think it was Elise Wagner who said art is “the other man”. I want to be with Art almost every minute! It is also comforting to know that most of us struggle to find time to be with Art. The lucky women and men of Painting with Fire who make art for a living are an inspiration."
