Ireland is a home of myths, folklore, deep spirit and a landscape that soothes your soul. It has been almost four years since Mulranny first captured my heart and I am beyond thrilled to return and bring you along with me.

The Wild Atlantic Way in County Mayo is a magical place, and Croagh Patrick, the sacred mountain that overlooks Mulranny, offers breathtaking views and unique stories.

Please join me for an in-depth experience in creating textures and faux patinas, as well as mastering the art of layering with transparent collage techniques. Mixed media artists are visual storytellers. Embrace the boundless possibilities of creativity beyond usual expectations. This enchanting landscape, where faeries dance and ancient stones speak, adds a unique chapter to your visual narrative.

We will create a series of pieces, each building on information learned. You will master the art of collage and transfers. The layers of collage speak of the layers and depth that travel, and art add to our lives.

  • Adding book pages — Use book pages in background and cover with textures of gels and paste

  • Optical color mixing — Abstracting the landscape using layers of color

  • Transparent collage and transfers — Adding elements of transparent collage and

    transfers

  • Stencils and stamps — Use stencils, stamps made, and tools found on beach walks

  • Color and composition — Work with color and composition to guide the eye around the painting

  • Chaotic middle stage — Learn to navigate through the chaotic middle stage of painting

  • Develop Faux Patinas -using mixed media

  • Working in a series — Discover how one area of a painting can jump start the next piece

  • Transfer and layers — Begin with color, add a transfer, build with paint, mark-making, fabrics, and found objects

  • Constraint — Limit palette and time to discover spontaneous and vibrant compositions

  • Double sided transparent collage — Create double sided transparent collage and embellish with threads, sticks, and found objects

  • Visual storytelling — Use land and mythology to guide visual storytelling with texture and transfers

“The hero’s journey always begins with the call. One way or another, a guide must come to say, 'Look, you’re in Sleepy Land. Wake. Come on a trip. There is a whole aspect of your consciousness, your being, that’s not been touched. So you’re at home here? Well, there’s not enough of you there.' And so it starts. “

About Sandra

Sandra Duran Wilson is a mixed media artist based in Santa Fe, NM.

Her work is included in museum, corporate, educational, and private collections globally. She began painting after observing slides beneath the lens of her father’s microscope as a child.

Her curiosity drove her work from realistic oil paintings to murals, to abstract mixed media acrylic painting. She has authored six books on Acrylic and Mixed Media Art and has conducted workshops internationally. Additionally, she runs a YouTube channel with now over 100 videos.

Art is in my blood, and I come from a long lineage of both artists and scientists. Art and nature are my sources of healing and guidance, driven by curiosity. My visual vocabulary is enhanced by my hikes in nature where I love the cracked earth, stones, rivers, trees and mosses. I am currently working on projects that will reconnect people with the environment with an emphasis on water. It is my goal to help others find their passion and to learn the tools to unleash their creativity. With over 25 years of experience mentoring through coaching, teaching, and art retreats, I have written six books on acrylic painting and mixed media, given lectures at art associations, and contributed to national magazines. My favorite title is Inspiration Instigator.
