Paper and Layers: The Art of Encaustic Collage
From base layers to surface design, Crystal Marie hopes you will fall as madly in love with the combination of wax and paper as she has. In this workshop, we will approach the art of collage and discover the endless potential of these two mediums when brought together on the canvas.
Discover how the use of encaustic wax can take your collage art to the next level through an examination of layers. From those that lie under the wax, to those that create the surface design of the piece, and everything in between. Encaustic wax will give your paper collage design a depth and luminosity impossible to achieve with any other medium.

Basic Encaustic station & equipment w/ clear medium
2-3 pigmented wax colors of your choice
Junk mail catalog or old magazine (not for collage purposes)
Watercolor Paper 140# weight
Collage Fodder: ephemera, paste papers, collected papers, found materials
found objects
photocopies of interesting images
Stiff bristle brush for gluing
scissors
Panels: your choice of size and styles
White gesso or primer (does not need to be encaustic gesso)
