Bettina Egli Sennhauser

Bettina Egli Sennhauser

I use formal, natural materials and issues to serve intimate and personal poetry. I create my narratives and vocabulary through innovative surfaces abstracting from what and who is around me and how I relate to it.

Aside from the technical decision-making required to make things work, my process is intuitive. I have learned that my best work comes when I approach a painting with a child’s mind, entering a dialog with the painting during the process, being non-judgmental, and focusing on the potential of the painting. I give myself permission to follow my creative curiosity, trusting that everything about creating my stories and composition is already inside me.

I am a self-taught artist, author, and R&F Artist Instructor, teaching Encaustic, Cold Wax, and Fresco workshops in Switzerland, Germany, Austria, USA, and Ireland, and online. I published my first working book on Cold Wax in 2023 (IdeenFänger zum Kaltwachs 1x1, in German), am a member of the 120-year-old Swiss Society of Women Artists (SGBK) professional association and Co-Chair of the European Chapter of the International Encaustic Association. Since 2017, my works have been shown in shows and galleries in Switzerland, Italy, and the US. I live and work in Switzerland near Basel.

Alpine Inspiration

In this workshop, we will immerse ourselves in the Swiss Alps's powerful and inspiring world and let these stunning mountains' aura and power guide us in our intuitive process. We will work with building materials, sand, and ash to create textured underpaintings to set new beginnings in our Encaustic works.

Perfect Imperfections

In this class, we will work with different dyes, inks, and water-based paints to create loose and imperfect underpaintings or in-between layers for your Encaustic Works. We will focus on helping you trust your process and intuition and accept the ever-so-beautiful imperfections in a painting.
